My current
work focuses on peeling back the layers of
natural life: discovering and documenting
biology of the natural world around me starting
in many cases, with my own back yard. The
intention of these images was, however, not
only to document, but to explore.
By enlarging the subjects, the viewer (and
I) gain access and greater appreciation of
a formerly unknown realm.
Most of the work seen here
was photographed with a low power microscope
using a 35 mm adapter. The work was enlarged
in a darkroom to 11 x 14, then scanned at
high resolution on a flatbed scanner. Because
all of the subjects seen here were dead,
and insects rapidly decay after death, great
care was taken to rebuild both color and
detail using Adobe Photoshop. The end result
was printed large-scale using an archival
Roland inkjet printer. |
